For Balasaheb Thackeray

We never knew you Personally, We never knew you Professionally,
We never knew you Emotionally, We never knew you Politically.

But still your absence, has created a Great Void in this Heart,
And a thought of you not being besides us, makes us Aghast
.

Today we understand what Greeks must have felt at the Loss of Achilles.
Today we understand the value of Conservation of Tigers.

Today we understand the value of North Star.
Today we understand how vulnerable we are without your Guidance.

Today this Nation has lost its Greatest Leader,
Today Maharashtrian’s have lost their Ultimate Saviour.

You are a King without ascending a throne.
You are an artiste second to none.

Even though we didn’t knew you very well,
You will be remembered in our hearts Forever and Ever.

"शक्ती पेक्षा युक्ती श्रेष्ठ" - Shakti peksha Yukti Shrestha

Govinda Aala Re ???

Tumbling down by the side of my bed, I woke up on the morning of Dahi Handi "D" Day, not because of the hangover of last night but instead, of loud noise of speakers radiating through my eardrums, boasting "Sheela ki Jawani" song rather than "Govinda Aala Re". For a brief moment of time, all my memories of then celebrated “Dahi Handi” passed through my little mind. The excitement which used to start from the night of Krishna Jnamashtami, with bhajans dedicated to Shri Krishna, often not only transcending the boundary of love and harmony, but also the Sound level, creating ruckus among people leaving in that building. On the same night, Market Vendors (market above which our building was situated) used to collect donation from all the families residing in those building, between whom the "Handi" ( matki, earthen pot ) was supposed to be hung high in the air.
The atmosphere created back then was highly vibrant. The scent of rain on dry earth falling that night boosted the spirit of every living being and enlightened every soul, irrespective of caste and creed. And why not?? After all Krishna janma had taken place at the night when there were heavy rains, flooding the lanes of Mathura. There is some mystical link between Krishna Jnamashtami & rains arriving that night. Nevertheless, the subsequent day which is the "Dahi Handi" was even more exciting. Everyone geared up to see how the Govinda Pathaks would create a human pyramid as tall as 6 tier, or 7 tier & try to dislodge the handi. Even Rain Goddess use to bless by shedding her sparkling drops on all of us and there by relieving us from the intense heat and exhaustion created by that tense moment. People trying to dislodge the pyramid by throwing water balloons and some splashing balloons on girls who were near the vicinity of Dahi Handi was a common sight.  It was a hell lot of fun, everyone enjoying, and by the time it was noon, the "Dahi Handi" would have been dislodged, thanks to all those relentless and brave efforts put in by "Govinda Pathaks". There was no Glamour attached to this sport/festive & not much amount of money was involved, and hence was sweet, short and had all those emotions attached to this event.
But today, things have changed drastically, and it seems that we are losing the innocence of this festival, the height at which the handi is been hung is increasing year by year (which for obvious reasons is pulled down later in the day). The famous song "Govinda Aala Re" is been played only once or occasionally and thereafter, it’s all about "Sheela Ki Jawani", "Munni Badnam Huii" & more recent one is "Paalu ke Neche Chupake" (Rowdy Rathore) which are been played for "N" number of times.
It does not stop over here, at some places it has been seen, that there had been "Lawani" (Marathi Folk Dance) sported.  The amount of prize money displayed has touched a Crore mark. The event which was once an affair to be handled by housing societies is now been handled by almost all political parties. Bollywood and Politicians are actively involved in such events. Previously, the Handi's which were getting dislodged by noon, now it gets dislodge not before dusk. People have started giving importance to the stage show organized by these politicians, rather than the "Dahi Handi" Festive. Gallons of water is been wasted for giving esthetic effect to "handi" celebration, one would often wonder, whether the drought like situation which was looming till a month ago on Maharashtra and entire India has subsided or what ??. It’s sad that people are wasting such precious element deliberately for entertainment purpose. Previously people used to gather around the handi, to have a look at the valiant effort made by a 6 year old, and how the handi is been dislodged, but now people gather around and wait for hours to have a glimpse at "Sunny Leone","Hrithik Roshan", "Emraan Hashmi" etc, who are been requested by our dear politicians, as a guest of honor.
Just as my memories were fading away and reality was seeping into my mind, I thought to myself that among this increasing glamour, glitz, money and fame, are we really welcoming "Govindas" whom we desperately cheered to break those handi’s or are we welcoming something which is erroneous ??.

Friend - For My Wife - Anu.

Friend
A Novice then, when I first spoke to you,
A Novice now, when I still speak of you.

In Cyclonic times, like a Beacon of Light,
You guided me, to Lead my Life.

With a Sparkling touch, you Cured my life,
& made me walk the Righteous Path.

Though a Thousand times I Angered you,
the many times you Cared for me.

You never expressed of how you feel,
But I always read them, in your Silence.

Like an Angel you gave me Strength & Courage,
Without which, I wouldn’t be standing alone.

How Grateful I am to Almighty, for you by my side,
Like a Multicolor Rainbow shining across.

You are an Inspiration, who Transformed me,
from Neanderthal to a Civilized man.

I Pray to God, to fulfill all your wishes,
And be my Friend in this Life and the next.

IPL 5: A Sports or a Hoax?

Two days back I had visited my old friends; all cricket enthusiasts and had a discussion on ongoing IPL season. The discussion went on from some of the great performances displayed by International and Domestics players, game strategies and some match results, which looked rigged. With IPL progressing at the end of its seasons, and only 4 teams to qualify for playoffs out off which3 teams have already qualified namely: Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians, the 4th spot seemed to be in tight position with 2 great teams battling their ways to earn that spot viz; Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore Royal Challengers, having their points tallied with each other. Chennai’s fate would be decided by the performance of Bangalore Royal Challengers.
As our discussion went, we predicted that Bangalore Royal Challengers will lose on Sunday May 20, 2012 against the team (Deccan Chargers) which has lost their maximum number of games in this season. The simple reason we sorted out was Greed for money; if we look at the venues which are decided for playoff’s to be conducted, 2 out off 4 venues are in Chennai; which means a good deal of money can be generated only if the home team qualifies for playoffs and this can only happen if Royal Challengers lose their game against Deccan Chargers; and “oh boy”, they did not disappoint us.
It is hard to believe; for a team which was unable to defend a score of 180 plus in more than 3 matches could easily manage to tame a team which has not scored once below 140 runs for last 7 matches. Chris Gayle who has been in sublime form in this tournament; and who was looking destructive too in this match, against Deccan Chargers, suddenly got out of a ball, which was too short of a length and outside off stump, trying to nudge it to third man position and instead dragging it back to the stumps. Virat Kohli who had cemented his innings gave a simple catch to Long on position and acted in such a manner that he was disappointed. I think with increasing Bollywood involvement with Cricket, players have also started taking acting classes. They have started giving genuine expressions as If they mean it.
IPL from the beginning of its concept , has always been in limelight for all wrong reasons, black money, unknown sources of cash flow, young chicks, spot fixing, match fixing , unwanted and unfair involvement of Top Politicians, Business tycoons and Film stars, has made this game lose its credibility. It has only became a business plan which churn out huge amount of money out off the pocket of commoner who thinks that these matches are played in light of true spirit of the game.
Anyhow, as the host of IPL and commentators always say, IPL is been a great “ENTERTAINMENT”. Which we all agree to be true, but the question to be asked is; on whose expenses ?. Is it not materialized on expenses of hard earn money of a common man, who is absolutely oblivious to the fact that theses IPL matches are rigged and are guided by greed for money.
I may have exaggerated and deduced far fetched conclusions, but time will only disclose what truth is. Being a  lover of this game, I pray whatever I have written in this blog against this magnificent game would turn out to be false, or else it will be a heartbreak for all of us.

Logistics at a Glance

Logistics has been an integral part of mankind for centuries. History has shown that logistics was most important issue tackled by Kings to win a war and defeat enemies. It had been a strategic decision made by kings to know, how to disturb enemies supply of essential commodities as well as ammunitions during wartime. Creating blockages, surrounding a Fort from all sides, making a route survey for longer distances, choosing shortest and viable route to reach desired destinations, maintaining inventory of food and ammunition and distributing it correctly as needed during war, all these activities are part of Logistics.
Defeat of King Porus against Alexander The Great, during Battle of Hydaspes in 326 BC is attributed to Strategic and logistical geniuses of King Alexander.  Staunch defense shown by King Porus made it virtually impossible for King Alexander to cross the Hydaspes River (Jhelum). But only due to Alexander “masterpiece” he managed to cross the monsoon swollen river by undertaking a route survey of 27 km, which showed him an island in mid river, which he eventually used to cross the river at night fall.
Over the years application of logistics as a managerial tool has evolved dramatically from Military Purposes to Business Solutions. Today Logistics comprises of mainly, three parts i.e.: Transportation, Distribution and Warehousing. Transportation is made up of three different modes which are SEA (Ocean), AIR and Surface transportation. Due to Globalization bilateral trade has increased among various economies, giving rise to huge amount of Transfer of Goods by Sea. Ninety Percentage of World trade is transported by Ocean Transportation. Liquid Bulk, Dry Bulk, Break Bulk, Neo Bulk and Containerized Cargo are major factors of Ocean Transportation. Shipping and Freight Forwarding Industry are part of Ocean Transportation, and are largely dependent on Economic condition of the Countries between whom, International Trade is carried out. Surface transportation again is a huge Industry itself and is divided between Road and Rail mode. In India majorly used Surface Transport, is by Road. Rail mode has recently started to pickup growth in India, thanks to Indian government who is taking necessary steps for promoting dedicated Rail Freight Corridors within the country, which will increase time efficiency and reduce cost of transportation. As per current data, the cost of Logistics in India is hovering around 14% of India’s GDP, whereas in Developed Nations it is around 6% to 8% and in China it is around 10% of their GDP. This data indicates that in near future, Scope for Logistics Industry in India will gain upward momentum.
Logistics as an industry is not a main line industry and it functions only as a support industry, same as an IT Industry. But without Logistical support, other industries i.e.: Manufacturing, Agriculture and Finance can neither survive on their own. Thus all these industries will have to grow with each other’s support. For India, Logistics Industry will perform better only when Infrastructure will grow. Better Roads, Dedicated Freight Rail Corridor, Electricity, Factory to Warehouse connectivity, Educated Drivers for Road Transportation and usage of Better Technology will allow Logistics Industry to grow at a faster pace. For Logistical Companies to cope up with ever changing customer requirement will have to provide with Integrated Logistical Solutions under one umbrella. Though the task of providing all Logistical solutions under one umbrella is daunting, companies will have to find out ways to provide either selected services or all services, depending upon the strength of the company.
